Franks point of view

When the kiss ended we looked into each other's eyes for minutes on end until I found myself wrapped in his strong arms. He pulled me down into his lap before he moved up to the head of the bed. When we got situated we ended up lying there in each other's arms warm and content. As the light just started to peak over the tree tops we both fell into a deep sleep our hearts keeping perfect time.

Even though safe in the haven of Gerard's arms it didn't stop the reoccurring nightmare that found its way into the folds of my brain as I slept.

*The pounding of a human heart, human feet beating against a concrete sidewalk with a loud thump for every step. The sound of the rain washing over the edge of the sidewalk and into the drains below as it washed away the large puddles of blood that were stemming from a beautiful but broken creature. The boy lying there looked small and broken yet the wounds that were visible on the pale body were fading away.

Still the other ran closer to the boy and placed a hand on his face. It may not seem like much but the boy lying on the sidewalk, Gerard, knew. He knew of Frank's ability, only he knew. None of his family would know nor would they ever bother to find out and Gerard was the only one he felt safe telling. Just by placing his hand on his cheek Frank could see what had happened and as the first few things ran through his head he nearly cringed away from the poor man's face.

"F… Frank. Don't leave me… please." Gerard pleaded.

"I could never leave you Gee. Just don't you leave me here alone… we know how well that worked last time."

He chuckled a bit under his shallow breath. I looked over his wounds and as I got closer I realized they weren't just any bite marks. I put my hand back to his face only to have my worst fear confirmed. The things that had attacked him weren't animals, and they weren't humans per say… they were vampires.

Vampires were not usually merciful; if they hadn't succeeded in killing him then they would have started to change him as soon as they heard or saw me. From the looks of it they had noticed me coming down the sidewalk and went ahead and started the change.

I picked up his bloodied body and brought him back to the apartment he had been staying in for the past few months and put him on the bed after cleaning him up as best I could. I could see small changes in the puncture wounds on his throat.

"Gee I need to check you for more bites; I need to make sure I cleaned them all to keep them from getting infected." I said with a false hope set in my mind that he would stay human.

"Frankie you know what's happening… we can't stop it. The bites are already starting to heal they won't get infected." His eyes were starting to droop closed as he was exhausted. The change almost always made people tired.

     "I'm sorry Gee; I'm sorry I couldn't have gotten there earlier…"

"You wouldn't have been able to do anything Frankie, you know that."

     "I could have tried."

"And you would have ended up right here where I am; nearly dead and changing into a vampire." He said so low it wasn't even a whisper anymore.

"I would rather it be me laying there Gee."

     "But I wouldn't."
